The author behind Riasles.

I have always believed that reading is a profoundly intimate act. Before I ever travelled, I went to Italy in a book. Before I fully understood romance, I felt butterflies in my stomach for the first time in a book. Books introduced me to soul music, to longing, and to the strange, beautiful vulnerability of feeling something deeply when none of it was happening to me.

Over the course of my life, I have called four countries and three continents home. My worldview has been shaped by the sea fog of Canada, the weight and architecture of Britain and Belgium, and the loud, abundant, enduring warmth of my West African heritage.

When you move through different cultures, you learn that humanity is the same everywhere, but the ways we protect ourselves, express joy, and hide our fears change depending on where we stand. I took the emotional truth of those four places and built a fictional island city to contain them. I named it Riasles.

"I write about what happens when love gets close enough to show you yourself."

Now, I write the kind of romance I have always wanted to enter completely. I am interested in the things you thought you had resolved. The things you did not know you wanted. The habits that kept you safe, and the parts of you another person can somehow see before you are ready to look at them yourself.

My characters are women who meet love at very different places in their lives. They are competent, guarded, vivid, and real. They do not need to be saved, but they do need to learn how to be seen. I write for the emotionally curious—for the reader who wants to understand why people do what they do when they are afraid to fall, and what they become when they finally let go.

Thank you for being here. I am so glad you found your way inside.
